Diapers

Holy Flip, do I have a review for you!

The Flip system, by Cotton Babies, is a cloth diapering system that uses covers and either reusable or disposable inserts. The covers come in all of the bumGenius colors and either snap or hook & loop closure. It is a one size diapering system and is supposed to fit babies/toddlers from birth to potty training. The recommended weight is from 8 to 35 pounds.

The disposable inserts are amazing! I was very skeptical when I received my first package, thinking that they would be nothing but leaks and more leaks. Boy, how wrong I was! I used the disposable inserts and reusable one size covers when we traveled for three weeks this past summer. My two month old, 22 month old, and 37 month old all were able to use them for daytime travel and two inserts at night time. We did not have a single leak in the entire three weeks, even with the newborn poosplosions!

The reusable inserts are either stay dry or organic. I do not personally have any of the organic inserts yet, so I do not know how well they work. I do have stay dry inserts, which work wonderfully!

I have both snap and hook & loop covers. When my now seven month old was a newborn and we were traveling, I preferred the hook & loop with him and the snaps with my older boys. Now, some may say I am a bit neurotic, but I color code my boys’ diapers. Bubbles is 3 and he wears green, Monkey is 2 and he wears blue, and Chubbs is seven months and he wears orange.

Bubbles wears the largest rise on the covers and his waist snaps three snap in on each side. He is 30lbs and barrel chested with skinny hips.

Monkey is on the second rise and his covers snap in four snaps on each hip. He is 26lbs and thin and tall.

Chubbs is the lowest rise and his covers snap in four snaps on each side on the hips. He is almost 20lbs and has rolls on his rolls!

The disposable inserts and stay dry inserts have seams where you can fold them down for small, medium, and large. We have not yet had a leak with the stay dry inserts. I prefer to use them as a night time diaper with a hemp insert. They work wonderfully and it has been so nice to have dry beds and jammies in the morning! The covers do seem to run a bit large, but even on Monkey, who is my skinniest, we still have an excellent fit. Flip diapers are my go to diapers for travel and night time.

If you want a versatile diapering system, Flip is the system to try! I love it and my boys seem to also! Just check out their smiles!

bumGenius 4.0 Pocket Diaper Review

The bumGenius 4.0 is a one-size diaper that is supposed to fit from 7-35 lbs. It has three rows of snaps for adjusting the rise to get a good fit as the baby grows. The stretchy tabs also help ensure a good, leak-free fit. This has been a great feature for us in getting a good fit on our little one that has a skinny waist and chubbier thighs. I also found the diaper to be a bit bulky at first, but by about 11 lbs it fit really well.

 bumgenius diaper

It has a PUL outer with a super soft lining on the inside that creates a pocket. There are several features of the pocket that help prevent leaks and wicking. They really have worked for us, containing some pretty big messes—we’ve never had a leak with this diaper! Since this is a pocket diaper, it can be stuffed with whatever you like (based on preference or need for more absorbency). It comes with two inserts, a newborn (can later be used as a booster) and a one-size that has an adjustable length. The newborn insert was never enough absorbency for us on its own, but the one-size insert has been great. The newborn insert can also be used as a booster. My only minor complaint is that it is kind of tight getting the one-size insert into the diaper when it is snapped down to the smallest size.

This diaper washes up really well. Occasionally we get faint staining, but sunning always takes care of that. Sometimes I forget to take the insert out before throwing it in the pail and it has always worked its way out in the wash. I also love how fast it dries since it is a pocket with an insert. I also like that I can put the diaper on the clothesline and the insert in the dryer.

If this is stuffed ahead of time, it is a great diaper for those less familiar with cloth diapers to use because you put it on the same as a disposable. Because it is so easy to use, this is a diaper that I often throw in the diaper bag for changes when we’re away from home.

The bumGenius 4.0 is definitely one of my go-to diapers. It is fairly economical–$17.95 for a reliable diaper that can be used from birth to potty training. And of course, there are some really cute new colors!

GroVia All-in-Ones and Hybrids

When I first started my cloth diapering journey I didn’t want “fluffy” diapers for my daughter. After lots of research my sister stumbled upon GroVia. I bought one to give it a try and I loved it. GroVia’s diapers are incredibly trim, and yet just as absorbent as other one-sized diapers I own. To create a mental image, think slightly bulkier than a disposable diaper. I don’t know how they make a one-sized diaper so trim, but GroVia does it!

GroVia makes their diapers with Organic Cotton inner layers and 100% Polyester TPU outer layers. The inner and outer layers are really very soft, and stay that way after prepping. The All-in-one has a tongue that is attached at the back of the diaper, but not at the front, this makes drying time slightly faster. You also have the option of adding a snap-in booster (which comes with the diaper when you purchase it). I have a very heavy wetter and very rarely have leaks with GroVia’s All-In-One system (however, I do not use it overnight).

The All-In-One and All-In-Two’s have three rise settings, the diaper is never bulky even when it is snapped all the way down. The All-In-One is slightly trimmer, while I find the All-In-Two just a little fluffy and roomier (still much trimmer than the typical cloth diaper). The All-In-One has side snaps (they snap at the hip, unlike more traditional diapers), with 5 waist and thigh settings. The stretchy wings make it fairly easy to get a good fit on your baby, and the side snaps have never slowed me down. I have a very chunky little girl, and a very long and lean son, the diaper fits both of them very nicely without leaks for either child. I also really like that GroVia offers a stay-dry booster pad for added protection and a stay-dry feel if you desire it. I often add this in my All-In-One instead of the snap in booster, so I still have the desired trimness but the stay-dry feel and just as much absorbency. While these do take slightly longer than pocket diapers to dry, they are very easy to care for. Simply wash on warm with a cloth diaper friendly detergent, and tumble dry. If you want to line dry that’s a possibility too, I do suggest tossing them in the dryer for 20 minutes to soften them after they are dry. These are made out of cotton so you WILL have to wash and dry 3-5 times prior to first use, they will reach full absorbancy after 10+ washes.

The All-In-Two shell comes in a snap or Velcro option. The snap option does not have the side snaps (it snaps in a more traditional way), and has six snaps for getting a good fit at the waist and hips; you do not have to worry about wing drooping at all with the shell. The inside of the of the diaper is lined with a very soft mesh material. I love that it protects my baby’s skin so she does not have any of the waterproofing touching her. The unique thing about the soaker pads is that they are backed with waterproof material, so you do not have to change the shell each time the baby wets. The shell very rarely gets urine on it! You can also use the shells with any other inserts you desire; however, if you use inserts other than the TPU backed ones, be prepared to change the shell when changing the insert.  The All-In-Two system is very easy to care for. Simply wash the shells with warm water, you can even throw them in with your little one’s laundry if you want! Then hang dry (they dry VERY quickly). The soaker pads should be washed like you would wash any other diaper, then you can tumble or line dry. They do take longer to dry than a typical diaper, but it doesn’t keep me from loving them. To be prepped wash the shells once and hang dry, to prep the soaker pads – wash and dry 3-5 times prior to first use. They will gain full absorbancy after 10+ washes.

Another great GroVia product is their Magic Stick. It has a pleasant smell, and the fact that it comes in a tube offers a mess free application. It glides on easily and works as a wonderful barrier to the moisture. I have used it at every diaper change and have not had a problem with it causing repelling.

Hm so, some negatives about Grovia? Let me think…while the prints they have are adorable, they don’t have many options for their All-In-One’s. Don’t worry though! They are getting ready to release new prints for their shells, and All-In-One’s soon. They do have a longer drying time and they do not have a stay-dry layer, if that’s what you are looking for please be prepared to add a layer of fleece on top for the stay dry feeling, or buy their stay-dry boosters. That said, they are soon to release a stay-dry, snap in soaker for their All-In-Two system. If you are on the fence about trying GroVia I challenge you to stop by clothdiapersinc.com and try one out (they offer free US shipping too!). GroVia has made cloth diapering a pleasure for me and my family.

GroVia’s All-In-One’s are $22.95, Shells are $16.95 (remember, you don’t have to change shells at every diaper change so you don’t need as many of them), Organic Cotton Soakers 2 for $17.95, and Magic Stick is $13.95.

Happy Diapering!

Blueberry Basix All-in-One Diaper

Can I give the Bottom Line at the beginning?

The Bottom Line: I LOVE THIS DIAPER! I think it is my new favorite! If I’m ever blessed enough to have another baby, I want my entire stash to be filled with this diaper!

Ok, now for the details…

This is an All-In-One diaper, but what makes it awesome is its pocket design. It has a total of 3 layers of microfiber sewn in. The insert is attached on one end so it comes out easily in the wash, which makes the drying time so much quicker!

Basix comes in 3 sizes and snaps on the side, so no issue with wing droop here. There are 3 rows of snaps on the tabs which help to get the perfect fit every time.

The super soft fleece on the inside helps to wick away moisture and keep your baby dry. I have had this diaper for a couple months and I’ve yet to see any pilling on the fleece. Did I mention how soft this fleece is? It feels like a cloud!

My most favorite feature is that I can stuff it with my hemp inserts. That has been my main issue with other AIO diapers. It’s so hard to add absorbency! Not here. My heavy wetter little one is always dry in the mornings when I use this diaper.

Plus, the price is right at $16.95! And don’t forget all the adorable prints and colors!

Best Bottom Diapers

Best Bottom Diapers is another brand that we’ve just recently begun carrying. It is an All-in-Two system.

Here are the specifics…

1. Wipeable one size cover fits babies up to 35 pounds.

2. Double layers of PUL.

3. Leg gussets

4. The inserts snap in for easy changing. No stuffing here.

5. Multiple insert choices, including an overnight option for those heavy wetters.

I have the Cookies n Cream color (pictured) with a large hemp insert and a large overnight insert. As you all have know, my little boy is potty trained during the day, so I only cloth diaper at night now. He is a heavy wetter still, so I definitely wanted to give the overnight option a shot.

As with all hemp products, the insert needed to be prepped. I did not boil the insert because I didn’t want to risk melting the snaps. So I prepped the long way which wasn’t all that bad.

I’ve used this diaper two times so far and I’ve had great experiences both times. If you use the overnight insert, you’ll want to snap that in first. It is not recommended for use alone. After snapping that insert in, you’ll snap the regular insert in on top of the overnight insert. There is a microterry option with a stay-dry topper and a hemp fleece option. Both are good choices. I went with the hemp insert.

The snaps will cross over for those little ones with skinny waists. The leg gussets fit perfectly making a nice snug fit reducing risk of leaks. The inserts and the cover all washed up very nicely and dried quickly.

The colors and prints are adorable! For full-time use you need about  8 shells and 18 inserts! You can start cloth diapering full-time with Best Bottom Diapers for just under $200.00!

If you want simple, easy to use cloth diapers, this is the system for you. As always at Cloth Diapers Inc, we have FREE shipping in the US and a 10% Cash for Your Stash Rewards Program!

The Bottom Line…I LOVE IT!

Blueberry Minky Bamboo One Size

We’ve just recently started carrying Blueberry and Swaddlebees products in our store, www.clothdiapersinc.com. The very second I saw these diapers, I fell in love! They are so adorable!

My little one is potty trained during the day and I only cloth diaper him at night now. So my stash is small…very small.  However, I could not resist trying this Blueberry Minky Bamboo One Size diaper.

So I decided to do a review on it. :)

First of all, this diaper is oh-so-soft! It has an outer layer of laminated minky. The inner layer is a bamboo and organic cotton blend. There is also a micro fleece option.  Two microfiber inserts are included in the diaper. These inserts are a little different than your “normal” rectangular microfiber inserts. The small insert is 3 layers and the large insert is 4 layers. The large insert has snaps to adjust for medium/large settings.

This diaper has two rows of snaps across the waist and two rows in the rise. It is recommended for babies from 10 to 35 pounds. My little boy is 3 years old and weighs about 36 pounds and it fits him perfectly with a little room to grow.

One reason some people don’t like pocket diapers is because of the stuffing. However, I found this diaper very easy to stuff even with both inserts. It is a little wider than a FuzziBunz diaper.

All you need to do to prep this diaper is to wash it once in hot water. Then you are good to go. My little man is a super heavy wetter, which has not gotten better since he daytime potty trained. Eh, what are you gonna do, right? Microfiber inserts don’t cut the mustard with him. I always double stuff his other dipes with hemp jersey inserts. But, in order to give a proper review, I used the microfiber inserts the first time…

As I suspected, the lone microfiber inserts were a bust. He leaked. Not the diaper’s fault in the least, just the excessive wetting. So, the next time I used it, I double-stuffed with hemp. No leaks! Just last night I used it again with the long microfiber insert and 1 hemp insert. Still no leaks!

Basically, I love this diaper! And my little boy likes it too!

You can get Blueberry, Swaddlebees and Pink Daisy products from our store. This diaper is $24.95. We offer FREE US shipping and we also have a 10% Rewards Program.
